Regional department store retailer Belk has overhauled its senior leadership that includes the name of a new chief executive.
Effective July 6, Nir Patel is the company’s chief executive officer. He succeeds Lisa Harper who has transitioned to executive chair of the retailer’s Board of Directors. Harper had served as CEO since July of 2016. Patel previously served as Belk’s president and chief merchandising officer.
“I’m honored to continue the great legacy of Belk,” Patel said. “We quickly adapted to the challenges the pandemic threw at us this past year. I’m proud of our team’s ability to stay focused on what really matters to our customers – having the best products and making their shopping experience safe and seamless.”
Patel joined Belk in 2016 as executive vice president and general merchandise manager, Men’s and eCommerce where he also expanded his responsibilities to include Home, Kids and Visual Merchandising before he was promoted to chief merchandising officer in 2018.
He was named president in 2020 as he assumed the additional responsibilities for Marketing and eCommerce. Prior to his years at Belk, Patel was a senior vice president with Kohl’s, a vice president at Land’s End, and worked for Abercrombie & Fitch, Target and Gap Inc.
Along with the CEO change, Belk also promoted Don Hendricks from chief operating officer to president. The company also hired Chris Kolbe as executive vice president and chief merchandising officer.
