BJ’s Wholesale Club is downsizing its Massachusetts headquarters as the retailer responds to the new reality of more of its employees working from home.
According to a report in the Boston Globe, the company unveiled its intention to move from its current location in Westborough to Marlborough. The new headquarters is in the same geographic region of The Bay State, just to the east of Worcester.
The wholesale club will lease office space of 190,000 square feet, down from the 280,000 square feet of its current headquarters. Company officials said at least 800 employees will work at the new location, a number that could grow to 1,000.
A spokesperson for BJ’s told the Globe the new office space will feature a modern design with an open floor plan that will create a more collaborative work environment. It will also be equipped with technology that will support hybrid work.
