Spectrum Brands is the latest kitchenware supplier to report a strong start to 2021, as sales of countertop appliances helped drive double-digit growth in the company’s fiscal year second quarter.

Company-wide sales for the three months ended April 4, were $1.15 billion, an increase of 22.6% over sales in the comparable quarter the previous year.

Sales in Spectrum’s Home & Personal Care division, which includes its small appliances sold under brands including Black + Decker and George Foreman, were $297.9 million, an increase of 28% over the second quarter of 2020.

“Net sales (in Home & Personal Care) were driven by continued strength in small kitchen appliances,” Randal D. Lewis, Spectrum’s executive vice president and chief operating officer, said during an investor conference call to announce the company’s second-quarter financials.

This was the seventh consecutive quarter of year-over-year top-line growth in the segment as momentum for the company’s appliances continued well past the holiday season.

“We’ve seen incremental demand in the U.S. from recent stimulus spending,” he said. “This bodes well for our plans to continue to grow sharing and shelf space with our key retailers.”

Spectrum Brands’ kitchen appliance roster includes a host of well-known brands such as Black + Decker, Russell Hobbs, George Foreman, Breadman and Juiceman.
