Sharp Debuts ‘Smart’ Microwave Oven

Sharp's first smart countertop microwave oven features Wi-Fi connectivity and certified Works with Alexa compatibility for hands-free operation using voice commands.

Sharp Home Electronics Company of America (SHCA) has debuted its first smart countertop microwave ovens featuring Wi-Fi connectivity and certified Works with Alexa compatibility.

    The microwaves are being offered in two sizes, a mid-sized 1.1 cubic-foot oven and a family-sized 1.4 cubic-foot unit.

Through the Alexa app or an Alexa-enabled device, the microwave can be utilized through voice commands to stop and start the unit, add time to the cooking cycle or cook at a specific power level.

“We are proud to build on our decades of experience designing innovative cooking appliances,” said Peter Weedfald, senior vice president of SHCA. “Now you can just say ‘Alexa, microwave fresh vegetables’ for a hands-free way to select the Fresh Vegetables preset.”

In addition to the Alexa enabled features, both Sharp microwave ovens are also specifically tuned to achieve optimal popping results from Orville Redenbacher’s Microwave Popcorn.

The One-Touch controls, Express Cook, and the Carousel turntable system make cooking and reheating easy. The unit features a brushed stainless steel finish, and a clock on the extra-large white LED display will set to the correct time once connected to your Wi-Fi.

The Sharp Smart Countertop Microwave Oven is available in two sizes:

    • The 1.1 cu. ft. offers more than 30 voice commands, and 10 more food presets available by voice only. MSRP: $149.99
    • The 1.4 cu. ft. offers Sensor Cooking, more than 70 voice commands, and 50 more food presets available by voice only. MSRP: $169.99
